BIG NEWS!
yes, i thought that might get your attention.
the biggest news that makes the australian breaking news is watching the president of the us land, giving us a great view of the ambulance which holds a bank of blood for him, his own chef, trainer, etc. fast forward and then we find Bush has given a speech welcoming everyone to opec. oh dear. sydney has been absolutely barricaded by fences and cement barriers. the downtown core is completely blocked off to regular business. and of course, we have the protesters. one guy got arrested for squirting ketchup/tomato sauce on officers and signs of support for bush while a group of comedians known for their show of "the chasers war on everything" (quite funny) was able to break security with a caravan of cars sporting the canadian flag (i guess that means the flag must just evoke a message of trust) and fake id cards. oh, it was sad. apparently the comedians themselves called it off when they were waved through security check points.
those responsible for security are definitely upset. but everyone i've talked to just thinks it's funny. looks like the election might be harder for howard to win this time around (he represents the group similar to the conservatives in canada).
