geelong olympic distance

well! i guess commuting to work by bike at least 1 or 2 times a week is starting to pay off, especially the one after swim squad. despite getting clocked right off the bat in the swim (probably from a friend actually) and freaking out because i couldn't see out of my left eye, as well as falling off my bike and over a small wooden barrier - i still managed to pb on the olympic distance as well as on the course. i don't know what it is but i keep falling off my bike. at some point, i'm going to have to learn how to stay on my bike!

this year, i was pleasantly pleased to NOT puke after the swim, despite almost swimming 2k instead of 1.5k. mark can attest to my poor ability to swim in a straight line. and surprise, surprise, i managed to get my first transition time to a little over a minute!!!!! that is fantab for me and i placed 4th in my age category for that. i tell you, if you have trouble getting out of your wetsuit, baby oil is the best (i know, it'll ruin my wetsuit). anyhow, i'm at about 3:05 for my olympic now and i figure if i actually put some time into my running i would have made it under 3h. so... that's next year's goal. the bike is becoming better and better to ride too! i just have to learn not to break my water bottle cages. i have no idea why they keep breaking but it's really annoying.

fish and chips actually isn't a bad recovery meal either i've learned. and it's always served in paper here.

  • Congratulations on the PB! I think that fish & chips is a really good all-purpose occasion meal - you've got a reasonable amount of protein and starchy deep fried goodness in one meal... plus fruit if you count the lemon wedge.
