my first DNF
i suppose that it was coming. the lack of enthusiasm to race, the self-inflicted pressure to produce at work, but when it did happen, it was totally out of my hands.
the swim in port arlington was uneventful, although i couldn't settle into any sort of rhythm and as usual, i took the long way around the buoys. but in all, i still beat some people out of my age category (or at least i hope). one thing about triathlons in australia in the gatorade series: people can really swim here.
the bike - oh, what can we say about that. little headwind, no energy and pain in my left knee (again). it was such a struggle to maintain even 22 km/h!!! i couldn't believe it. rounded to 2/3 of the course and realized that i was just feeling way too much of the road. i mean, my bike isn't good at absorbing bumps and such but this was ridiculous. lo and behold, it was a flat. no wonder my butt hurt! so i proceeded to change it as quickly as possible but my tire levers ALL SNAPPED as i tried to take the tire off! lesson to be learned after being picked up my the sag wagon (white BMW suv) - apparently tire levers can get pretty brittle after a while. or at least the specialized black ones did.
oh well. it just really shows that anything can really happen during a triathlon. ah well, at least i tried.
