geelong olympic distance
with this new bike, well, i just have to try it out before the triathlon season is over... so what lynn does the geelong olympic distance race which just happens to be the victorian champs race. oops. oh well. the swim was alright but i really dislike swimming in salt water. this became even more evident when 5 mins after spotting georgie and saying 'hi' on the bike course, i proceeded to fall off my bike and puke my guts out. yep. now i can't say i haven't puked from a triathlon. no, i wasn't pushing it awfully hard on the bike... but let me tell you, there seemed to be no end to what was coming up. the volunteer asked if i wanted a medic and of course, being near the back of the pack, i had loads of other competitors ask if i was alright, as they zoomed past me. good thing i managed to get my new bike out of their path!!!!
so after that episode, i went right back on the bike and proceeded to just enjoy the day. so did i make a new record on my bike? hard to say. i didn't have an odometer for my new bike yet and the timing guys messed up so i have only my finish time. BUT, mark did say i looked good when he passed me - and we all know that looking good is OH SO IMPORTANT in these races.
regardless, for once, the wind did not bother me on the bike. my back didn't ache. i was having fun again on the bike.
so much fun, that when i got off the bike and saw mark (who was done, of course) and georgie, i stopped and chatted with them. guess i wasn't suppose to stop but i kept thinking, this was only suppose to be a fun one. i started cramping at 1k. not a good sign, so i took it really easy. note to self, just because mitch says salt pills aren't necessary, does not mean that he's right. second note to self - gatorade or other sports drinks aren't served on triathlon distances less than a half-ironman!!!!
all in all, it was a very fun day and despite having trouble getting out of my wetsuit AGAIN (when i got in to transition there were half the bikes there; by the time i got out of my wetsuit, all the bikes were gone!!!) i can honestly say, that's been the funnest (is that a word?) triathlon i've done in a very long time.
ps. for those of you who are still in canada - be glad you have sportstats for timing. they are miles ahead of the aussie group.
