musings of an idiot
it is just over a year since i've been in melbourne. it is hard to believe that there is still 2.5 yrs left to go. i've taken stock of how far/how little i've done and it has been shockingly little in the lab. albeit, i can't say that i get excellent feedback from the boss. i have quickly begun to realize that i will have to come up with my own ideas and then feed them to him, convincing him they are worthwhile. the fellowship thing has been a bust. i am now out of the loop for getting a fellowship and with little hopes of new first author publications before the next deadline, i'm likely to be even less of a good candidate. i have also learned that i have to be more aggressive. at least in this lab. unfortunately i also think that this will reflect in my personal life. it never ceases to amaze me the type of people you meet.
i'm still moving back to north america.
what will i miss from melbourne? i will really miss the ability to pop out the door and go for a ride, being close to work, and having a really good swim squad to swim in (note new high, i can now do 4k workout in 1.5h) and i'll miss the good coffee. yes, they really do know how to make good coffee even if i don't like the taste of coffee still.
