ironman japan or ironman china?
well, we need some help here focusing on ONE ironman.
newly introduced ironman china which is at the end of april (www.ironmanchina.com) or ironman japan which is considered to be situated in a beautiful location (www.ironmanjapan.com) at the end of may
let's look at the advantages of doing ironman china:
1) we'd get to visit my relatives in hong kong as well
2) it's closer and we'd pay less airfare cost
3) it works out better in terms of timing for training with others who are doing ironman australia
4) time limit is 17h so lynn has a chance to finish again
there are some obvious potential drawbacks:
1) being new might make the organization of the event slightly less than desirable
2) being close to australia might make other wannabe qualifiers go to ironman china instead of ironman japan
3) now there's no excuse to go to japan
thoughts?

Where in China though? I think it will be well-organised race; the Chinese are obssessed with "showing the world" that they're a world-class type of country, so they'll probably do a good race...
also, china will be WAY cheaper. but, watch out for food poisoning (dead serious here). that might be an issue.
HK! if i'm there, maybe you can visit me. when's IMChina?

After reading the course description for Ironman China, my vote is for China.
"The bike course is likely to be very fast with flat and rolling hill sections. Riders may encounter a variety of farm animals along the course, including water buffalo."
The opportunity to encounter farm animals, including water buffalo!! on the course is too good to pass up.
I agree with Hetti it will likely be a well organized event. So I guess the only down side is the course appears to be quite flat; this doesn't play to Mark's strengths if he planning on qualifying for Kona.

There is also of course the possibility of catching Avian Flu in China.... I wouldn't worry though, peoples immune systems work great after an Ironman, don't they.
How much do you think a free tibet singlet would cost? Maybe we could all chip in.

we'll all be paying for lawyers for lynnie's release, after she gets thrown into the chinese gulag for wearing a "free tibet" singlet...
on the upside, we can recycle "free wang dang" t-shirts...(cross out the "dang", and insert "lynn").

uhm...i might pass on the free tibet singlet but promise to take pictures of water buffalo along the bike course!
